As you walk into this gorgeous, hi-tech cafe in Indira Nagar, you’re more often than not welcomed by their founder Soomanna, who I found him to be extremely down to earth and humble (that’s also the name of the cafe). I had the good fortune of interacting with him several times and was super curious to know about this phenomenon of ‘‘5th Wave'‘ in Coffee World! Here’s the story:
After 13 years in banking, Soomanna felt he was missing something in his life, prompting him to leave the corporate world in 2017. Hailing from the coffee-centric universe of Coorg, he reminisced about how integral coffee was to his family and community. Despite the increasing popularity of coffee in India, he recognized that the broader farming community remained unaware of its finer nuances and global popularity.
This realization led to the inception of HumbleBean together with his wife Puja as the Co-Founder. They’re driven by a vision to uplift the 85% of India's coffee farming community comprising small and medium farmers.
Their Coffee Academy which is located on the first floor of the cafe started by offering free assessments of farmers' yields, enabling them to enhance quality, fetch better prices, and understand the true taste of their coffees. Over the last six years or so, this gradual process has culminated in the establishment of HumbleBean Concept Cafe, symbolizing their commitment to enriching coffee knowledge and empowering farmers in India.
HumbleBean is dedicated to showcasing and promoting Indian coffees on the global stage. Through close collaboration with small and medium-sized coffee farmers in India, they provide consistent testing, feedback, and suggestions to enhance farming techniques. Their expertise in roasting ensures that they bring out the natural flavors of coffee beans, maintaining a standard flavor profile consistent with their House Blends. Also, they take pride in working with diverse farmers across the country, offering Limited Edition coffees with a variety of flavor profiles to provide a range of unique coffee experiences to their customers.
