The Café:
Indie café culture is not just about coffee anymore, but also about the presentation, vibes, and ambience and Lucid in Singapore sets an awesome example.
Initially, I wondered why its name is so, until I pondered on the meaning of the word, and checked into this amazing coffee place couple months ago at Hamilton Road, Singapore. It makes so much sense now as Lucid means ‘clear, coherent, intelligible’. It’s a state of mind that accurately described how I felt once I stepped into the café.
Lucid sports super stark and completely clutter free décor befitting its name. The matte finished interiors gives off a sleek yet rustic feel. With wide grey walls and metallic furniture, the space no doubt oozes an industrial charm making it grammer’s favourite, I mean Instagram 😊
Some might find it jarring from the usual beautified walls that greet customers, but as its name once again reminds you, this is a place to seek clarity, of course, with the help of caffeine!
The Story:
What makes Lucid stand out from other coffee houses in recent times is its owner’s story and her coffee journey to where she is today. Andrea Tan is Singapore’s first National Brewers’ Cup champion but her route to reigning champion is epic.
Apart from being Lucid’s owner, she’s also a certified World Coffee Events judge which takes her around the world observing, sipping, and guiding other coffee connoisseurs on how to perfect their craft. I could n’t wait to see myself there sooner than later!!
Lucid’s slow coffee menu has a wide selection featuring international coffee roasters that we feel are the best at their specific styles.
The Coffee :
· Country/Region: Guatemala/Huehuetenango
· Varietal: Catuai
· Processing: Washed
· Elevation: 1700 m.a.s.l
· Tasting Notes: Walnut, Green Apple, Cane Sugar, Mixed Currants
Located in Huehuetenango, Guatemala, Finca El Olvido sits on Sierra de Los Cuchumatanes, the highest non-volcanic mountain range in Central America. Huehuetenango is one of the highest coffee cultivating regions in Guatemala, but also one of the driest. This makes it optimal for growing and processing specialty coffee.
Finca El Olvido was owned and managed by Alfonso Anzueta, who has been a coffee producer all his life. The farm has become part of the family heritage, passed on to Alfonso's daughters, Leticia and Lorena Anzueta. The farm is now managed by Leticia's husband, William Perez, who also manages his own farm, Finca Los Pinitos.
15gm of gautemala , 80 deg 240ml of water sing the magic to taste one of the best pour over coffee filtered through a v30 micro filter. Sip the coffee and feel the inherent flavor of walnut, green apple and cane sugar. Live the coffee moments.
Really interesting, thanks for sharing all these amazing places.
